Target Racing started its 2022 season at Imola last weekend. The Ravenna-based team was involved in the opening round of the European Super Trofeo Lamborghini championship, and in the GT2 European series promoted by SRO. In the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, Target fielded two Huracans for the pairings of Marzio Moretti-Milan Teekensand Dmitry Gvazava-Milan Petelet. Qualifying was more than positive: in Q1, Teekens set the second-fastest lap time while Gvazava finished tenth. In Q2, Moretti got P3 and Petelet was P4. The first race saw the Target team emerge as the main contender with Teekens holding a potential podium position for a long time.
After the pit stop, Moretti, who had taken the drive from the Dutch driver, suffered a puncture and was forced to retire. Gvazava-Petelet had better luck as they crossed the finish line in P8, and P5 in the Pro-Am class. In race 2, Gvazava-Petelet delivered a spectacular performance to P3 overall, and victory in the Pro-Am class. It was a very remarkable performance for the Russian-French combo, who brought the first trophies to the team for this season.
Moretti-Teekens were again unlucky as they were forced to retire due to a technical problem in the opening laps when the Italian was holding third place. With the car running under the Automobile Tricolore banner, Raffaele Giannoni secured the third step of the podium in the AM class in race 2, and was 14th overall. In the first race, he had finished 20th overall.
In the GT2 championship, Alessandrini-Malagamuwa shared Target's Lamborghini
Huracan. In the two qualifying sessions, they scored P7 and P10 respectively. The team went on to take the checkered flag in P11 in race 1, but had to retire from the second race.
